The causes and solutions of hydraulic hose oil leakage

oil leak

5 reasons that cause hydraulic hose leak

1. Rubber materials

Hydraulic hoses are made of synthetic rubber material, so the quality of the rubber material can determine the quality of hydraulic hoses. The top rubber materials can fundamentally determine the quality and grade of hydraulic hoses, using very high quality rubber materials to make hydraulic hoses. And in the manufacture of hydraulic hose, you need to choose the right type of rubber according to the hydraulic hose performance we want to achieve. For example, nitrile rubber material has excellent oil resistance, therefore, nitrile rubber is ideal for making hydraulic hoses for transporting oily hydraulic fluid.

2. Rubber milling

In the hydraulic hose manufacturing process, the rubber mixing process is the first step where we need to mix the rubber material to make it suitable for making hydraulic hoses. The raw material is mixed with other blending materials using a rubber refiner to get a mixture of materials to make hydraulic hoses in the next manufacturing process.

The refining process is also important to take the rough rubber material to a higher level. There should not be any tiny air bubbles in the rubber properties. High density synthetic rubber sheets make the finished hydraulic hose more durable and tightly bound to avoid leaks during its lifetime.

Refined rubber is perfect for making the inner tube of hydraulic hoses, and then the rubber should be vulcanized to obtain a stable physical structure for good performance of hydraulic hoses.

The rubber milling machine, also called rubber milling machine, is also an important factor that ensures the quality of the milling process.

Among these factors, skilled hydraulic hose technicians also play an important role in the quality of hydraulic hoses, as experienced workers are able to precisely control each step of the process in the manufacturing of hydraulic hoses.

3. Hydraulic Hose Crimping

Before the hydraulic hose assembly, it is necessary to crimp the hydraulic hose, connect the hydraulic hose fitting with the hydraulic hose head, lock it firmly, and then install the hydraulic hose into the hydraulic system for heavy machinery, powered by hydraulic oil.

It is important to choose the right hydraulic hose crimping die with the right crimp diameter to avoid loosening of the hydraulic hose fitting and causing hydraulic hose leakage. A leak-free hydraulic hose fitting will prevent vibrating hydraulic hoses from failing during use.

And the housing needs to be checked for proper crimping to firmly bite into the hydraulic hose. Hydraulic hose fittings should not be too tight or too loose. A hydraulic hose fitting that is too tight can break the hydraulic hose cover and damage it causing hydraulic oil infiltration; a hydraulic hose fitting that is too loose can cause the hydraulic hose to leak at the joint.

4. Wrong Working Pressure

When choosing a hydraulic hose you need to know the working pressure at the beginning, you can find the parameters of the working pressure and burst pressure of the hydraulic hose.

In the hose catalog you can find the working pressure range for each hydraulic hose application that you want to order for your hydraulic system.

Working pressure is not the right hydraulic hose in working condition may leak because of very high pressure, please be clear about your actual working pressure, and then choose the right hydraulic hose.

5. Failed Hydraulic Hose Impulse Testing

The hydraulic hose pulse test is an important hydraulic hose test used to predict the life of hydraulic hoses, as well as other worn hydraulic hose accessories in hydraulic systems.

The pulse test equipment can stretch and bend the hydraulic hose sample to test the quality. If the hydraulic hose can not pass the pulse test, it means that this hydraulic hose is not qualified. Failed products are potentially harmful when use it.

How to Fix a Hydraulic Hose Leak?

Ensure safety:

Before performing any maintenance work, ensure that the power to the hydraulic system is turned off and the pressure in the system is relieved. This will help prevent any accidents.

Locate the leak point

Inspect hydraulic hoses to identify the location of leaks. Leak locations can be identified by looking for oil droplets or fluid spraying out.

Relieve pressure:

If there is any residual pressure in the system, relieve it by activating the pressure relief valve or by using the appropriate method recommended by the manufacturer.

Remove damaged section:

Once the pressure is relieved, use a wrench or pliers to disconnect the affected portion of the hose from the fitting. Carefully inspect the hose for any other damage or wear.

Cut out the damaged area:

If the leak is caused by a puncture or tear, use a hose cutter or sharp knife to cut out the damaged portion of the hose. Make sure the cut is clean and straight.

Select a replacement hose:

Measure the length of the section being removed and select a replacement hydraulic hose of the same type, size and pressure rating. It is important to use a hose that is compatible with the hydraulic fluid being used.

Attach fittings:

Slide the appropriate fittings onto the ends of the new hose to ensure a proper fit. Secure the fitting in place using the manufacturer’s recommended hose clamp or crimping tool.

Install the new hose:

Connect one end of the new hose to the fitting on the hydraulic system and the other end to the appropriate fitting. Make sure the connection is tight and secure.

Test for leaks:

Once the new hose is installed, restore power to the hydraulic system and pressurize it. Double check the repaired area for signs of leaks. If there are no leaks, the repair was successful.
